In recent weeks we have played well
and been unlucky to take nothing, today however, we deserved
nothing, playing appalingly in an ill-tempered match.
Chequer fielded a very weak
side, with 7 regulars unavailable, no substitutes, and
3 players carrying injuries. Against a young, fit side
on a heavy pitch the team was not fit enough or strong
enough to battle for the points
We should have taken a lead
within 3 minutes when Steve Duffet connected with a well
delivered corner, but 9 minutes later found ourselves
trailing 3-0. Wanderers are a very youthful, fast side
and they simply tore us apart whenever they broke forward.
There were numerous errors for all the goals, Chequer
simply failing to pick up runners and stay with their
men. A fourth goal came 30 minutes into the half, followed
shortly afterwards by a fifth. Chequer earnt a penalty
with 5 minutes remaining, despatched by James Pargeter
to leave a semblence of hope.
Chequer bought the score
back to 5-2 shortly after the restart - a deflected effort
from Si Price, returning from 3 months out with injury.
Chequer then had the better of the game for a ten minute
period when we should have reduced the defecit. Beckett
continued to break with pace and look dangerous though
and added a sixth when Christian Young inexplicably left
his man unmarked to walk the ball round Matt Bailey.
Only Gareth &
Trevor can take any real credit for their performances
today, the rest of the side, didn't turn up. Credit to
Wanderers though - they deserved their victory, and played
a good passing game that we couldn't match today.
