This tournament attracted 50 teams,
with some very high standards in the opposition.
A poor start to the tournament
in losing the opening fixture 1-0 to Burgess Hill Albion
was quickly overcome. Four straight victories in the remaining
group games saw us into the Quarter Finals of the competition.
A hard fought 1-0 victory over FC Ferrit, relying on a
golden goal in extra time, meant progress to the semi-final
which we also won 1-0 against F.C. Collington.
The final was against last
year's competition winners "Page's Panzies".
Two very good teams could not break each other down, with
both sides defending strongly. Extra time brought no golden
goal and so the competition was decided on sudden death
penalties. Gareth Dutton & George Trafford converted,
and Mark Johns saved the second penalty he faced to see
us finish as competition winners for the second five-a-side
tournament in a row.
